Questions About Heaven

What Happens When We Die?

1. Why Do People Die?

“the worst thing about living on this earth—that everyone’s lumped together in one fate. Is

it any wonder that so many people are obsessed with evil? Is it any wonder that people go

crazy right and left? Life leads to death. That’s it.” Ecclesiastes 9:3 MSG

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”

Romans 6:23

2. Why Do People Fear Death?

3. Where Do the Dead Go When They Die?

 You Get to Choose

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to

destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is

the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13–14

 The Righteous Path

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except

through Me.” John 14:6

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has

everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life”Jn5:24

 The Rebellious Path

“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

“it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,” Hebrews 9:27

4. How Long Do We Stay in the Grave?

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present

with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

“Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise”Lk 23:43

5. Where is Our Final Destination?

“For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they

are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly,

and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.” Phil.3:18–19

 Believers Go to Heaven

“For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and

leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by

God himself and not by human hands.” 2 Corinthians 5:1

 Non-Believers Go to Hell

“I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his

presence, but they found no place to hide. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing

before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead

were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave

up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to

their deeds. Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is

the second death. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was

thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:11–15

Today's Message

Questions About Heaven Series

Who Will Be in Heaven?

1. Entrance into Heaven Requires a Relationship

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Mat.7:21–23

⇒ Sin Takes Us Down the Wrong Road

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

⇒ Sin Must be Dealt With

“there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” Rev. 21:27

⇒ Jesus Conquered Sin & Death

“For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

2. Entrance into Heaven Requires a Response

“As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.”” Romans 3:10–12

⇒ Realize we Cannot Earn Heaven

“All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8–9

⇒ Realize Jesus is the Only Way to Heaven

“But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” Revelation 21:27

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Pt 3:9

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

3. Entrance into Heaven Requires a Recording

“But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” Revelation 21:27

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Message for Today:

Questions About Heaven Series

Is Heaven Real?

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father’s

house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place

for you. & And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to

Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1–3

1. Heaven Has an Address

 Current Heaven

“to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5:8

 Future Heaven

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had

passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem,

coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And

I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and

He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and

be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more

death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have

passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And

He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” Revelation 21:1-5

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be

remembered or come to mind” Isaiah 65:17

2. Heaven on Earth

“Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues

came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” So

he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city,

Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God and

sparkled like a precious stone—like jasper as clear as crystal. The city wall was broad and

high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of

Israel were written on the gates. There were three gates on each side—east, north, south,

and west. The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written

the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. The angel who talked to me held in his hand

a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. When he measured it, he

found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were

each 1,400 miles.” Revelation 21: 9-16 NLT

 No More Sun or Moon

“No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor for brightness will the moon give you

light; But you will have the Lord for an everlasting light. And your God for your glory’ Is.60:19

 Jesus will Rule & Reign

 God’s Garden will Grow Again

“ Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the

throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each

side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each

month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.” Revelation 22:1–2

 Beauty Beyond Belief

3. Heaven is Designed Just for You

“The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.” Gen. 2:15
